Before you install

  • Apple Silicon — M1, M2, M3, M4 (any variant)
  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later
  • Plugged in — Acorn pauses on battery
  • Disk space — ~6 GB for the Whisper-large weights, downloaded on first run

What gets installed

One menu-bar app at /Applications/Acorn.app. Model weights cached at ~/Library/Caches/com.acorncompute.app/. No background daemon, no kernel extension.

Three-minute setup

  • 1. Download the .dmg, then move Acorn.app into Applications.
  • 2. First launch: open Acorn.app normally from Applications.
  • 3. Sign in with the email you will use for payouts. The app downloads model weights and goes idle until your Mac is.

Quitting and uninstall

Quit any time from the menu-bar. To uninstall: drag Acorn.app to the Trash and delete ~/Library/Caches/com.acorncompute.app/. Detailed steps: /uninstall.

Beta caveats

Earnings are limited while the fleet is small.

During alpha, demand is thin and per-job rates will be below the calculator estimate on the host landing. As the fleet grows, the dispatcher routes higher-margin jobs to enrolled hosts first.

If the download button fails or the installer is temporarily unavailable (HTTP 503), do not troubleshoot from Terminal — Ask Acorn support for the current beta installer at hello@acorncompute.com.
